Dance Group "Ecos del Valle"

The group was formed in 1990 as a new initiative, and originally counted on ten participants, all girls between the ages of 12 and 16 years. Since then the group has grown, consolidated and become known.

Today there are 27 dancers, including 4 boys/men and ages varying between 10 and 20 years, who work in different sub-groups according to the difficulty of and skill or agility required by the dance steps.

The objective of the group is to integrate folk dancing into the Valle de Mena.

The costumes worn by the young dancers is typical of the Burgos province: a red skirt with horizontal black stripes, a black waistcoat with an embroidered edges and a white shirt.

Rehearsals are held once a week all year round, and more frequently if there is a performance coming up. Performances are given all over the valley at local festivals and events, and the group travels outside the valley as invited.

Dances from different counties have been adapted since no actual Menes dance exists, although in 2005 the dancers themselves created their own dance choreographed to the music of a local clarinet-type instrument, the 'dulzainero'.

The group has participated in an exchange visit with a group from Plasencia (Cáceres) and another one with San Asensio (La Rioja) and has also participated in the nine annual International Folklore Festivals held so far in Villasana.
