Angulo's Valley
Trapped between the Sierra de Carbonilla – the eastern ridge of the la Peña Mountains – and the limestone ranges of the Sierra Salvada, there exists a stretch of spectacular countryside almost untouched by human intervention and so blessed with a distinctive wild beauty that confers much to the ‘personality’ of the lands which jointly make up the Mena Valley. This area is the Valle de Angulo, an area surrounded by steep mountainsides and leafy beechwoods, and home to spectacular waterfalls – the Peñaladros and San Miguel – as well as several small hamlets where excellent examples of traditional architecture can be found side by side with towers and other imposing buildings which date from the early medieval period.
